Lunar New Year Celebration

In honor of the Lunar New Year, Sanctuary Columbus Church is creating what we call a “sanctuary space” for our AAPI family to enjoy a meal together while fully celebrating their racial and cultural heritage.

This will be our third annual Lunar New Year celebration at Sanctuary. We’ll do this potluck style, so please bring a dish to share. Sanctuary will provide plates, napkins, plasticware, and drinks.

Please contact Terry Chi with any questions.

Other names for spaces like this in racial justice work include “homogenous spaces” or what the University of Washington calls “racial caucusing” (click here to learn more about this important part of racial justice work). SCC has created similar spaces for other racial identities within our community in the past. For example, the first offering of our Dismantling Racism class was a homogenous space for our White framily to vulnerably learn and practice their role in racial justice work shortly after the murder of George Floyd.*
