Child Dedication
A child is a God-given treasure (Psalm 127:3) fully capable of receiving his blessing and acceptance. Child dedication is a Sunday-morning celebration that signifies a parent’s commitment to value and nurture that treasure in the love and grace of God. It is a rite of blessing that recognizes parental responsibility of raising children in a home influenced by Jesus where he or she can grow in faith, hope and love.
Child dedication is primarily a service to the parents that hold the belief that baptism occurs after one has made a conscious decision in confessing the Lordship of Jesus. This service is supported by the Old Testament model of Hannah that dedicated Samuel to the work of temple ministry. (Note: your child will go home with you after the service) Jesus also openly blesses children as a sign of the Kingdom open to all (Mark 10:13-16)
At Sanctuary we recognize the role of the church community in assisting parents witht the responsibility of nurturing children in faith (Deuteronomy 6:4-9). At the dedication celebration both parents and church are invited join together to pray, care, and teach children to receive the hope we have in Jesus.

A Christian Parent’s Covenant
You will not have to recite a pledge during the ceremony. You should, however, read and decide whether you are able to commit to this pledge:
“Declaring Jesus as Savior and Lord and believing in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, I acknowledge that my children are gifts from God, that I am a caretaker by His grace and, therefore, accept the responsibility for raising my family to know, follow and love Jesus. As a parent:
- I will demonstrate for my child integrity in my personal life with the scriptures my rule of life.
- I will teach my child the meaning of fidelity in my marriage or singleness
- I will show my child the meaning of fellowship and servanthood through my church and care for the community.
- I will demonstrate my faith in Jesus through prayer, and the application of biblical truth as I teach my child to follow Jesus as Lord.
With God as my strength, I promise to give my child every possible benefit of home, school, church, and community. And I ask His blessing upon him/her to guide and guard through all his/her years. Amen.”
